Maths and reading adventures with Tumi the turtle

For children aged 5 to 12. Your child helps Tumi catch number fish, read the signs on Word Island and solve shell puzzles on the beach, learning as they play.

No download, no sign-up. Plays in the browser on phones, tablets and computers.

Three adventures

One turtle, three places to explore

Tumi lives at the bay. From there your child chooses where to go today. Questions match their age, get quietly easier when your child is stuck, and Tumi offers a step up when they're flying.

Maths Lagoon
Maths at sea

Maths Lagoon

Sail with Tumi from Coral Cove to The Deep. Catch the fish with the right answer to open each gate and bring the lagoon's magic back.

  • Adding, taking away, times tables, dividing, fractions
  • 5 places, 3 missions each
Word Island
Reading on land

Word Island

A big wind blew the words off all the signs. Your child reads, matches and fills in missing words to put them back.

  • Word-to-picture, missing words, everyday words
  • From Fruit Forest to School House
Shell Counting
Calm puzzles

Shell Counting

A quiet beach corner with no clock. Count shells, find pairs that make 10, 20 or 100, and collect real South African shells.

  • Counting, number bonds, times-table pairs
  • 10 shells to find, each with a fact

See it in action

Big buttons, clear steps, Tumi always beside them

Every screen shows what to do, how many are left and what comes next, so children always know where they are.

How it works

Play, learn, collect

Children see an adventure. Grown-ups see the learning underneath it.

1

Play

Your child helps Tumi on short missions of 5 questions. Each right answer fills Tumi's jar, and three missions open a gate to the next place.

Short runs, easy to stop
2

Learn

A wrong answer gets a kind hint about the method, never just the answer. After two tries, Tumi works it out step by step with pictures.

Making ten, number lines, groups
3

Collect

Sea friends, baby creatures, stickers, outfits for Tumi and real shells. Every mission adds something to keep.

Rewards that bring them back

For parents and teachers

Made with every child in mind

Shell Haven was designed with autistic children in mind: clear steps, predictable rewards, and settings you control.

Calm mode

Turn down movement, sounds and surprises, one part at a time, for children who prefer less stimulation.

Read aloud

Tumi reads every question out loud, so children who are still learning to read can play on their own.

Progress report

See what your child gets right first time, their strongest skill, what needs practice and what to try next.

Daily play time

Choose 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes a day. Tumi gently suggests a break when time is up.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need to download an app?

No. Shell Haven runs in the web browser on any phone, tablet or computer. Open the link and tap Play. You can add it to your home screen from the browser menu so it opens like an app.

What age is it for?

Children aged 5 to 12. When your child starts, Tumi asks their age and picks questions for 5–7, 8–10 or 11–12. You can change this any time under "Grown-ups: report and settings".

How does the monthly code work?

Each code opens everything until the end of its month. When you pay for the next month, we send you a new code. If you stop, the game goes back to the free places, and your child's progress is kept.

Does progress move between devices?

Not yet. Progress and the unlock code are saved on the device and browser where your child plays. Use the same device each time, and avoid private or incognito browsing, which clears the save.

Is it safe for my child?

There are no adverts, no chat and no sign-up. Your child's name and progress stay on your device. We count visits anonymously to see which parts children enjoy, and never send names or what they type.

Which languages does it use?

English. Some parts of Maths Lagoon are also in isiZulu and Sesotho, and more is on the way.
