Go fishing for the right answer

A gentler way to play. Reduce movement, sounds and surprises for children who prefer less stimulation. Turn each part on or off to suit your child.
Play is split into runs of 5 catches. Everything your child earns lives in My Lagoon (the green button at the top): sea friends from runs, items bought in the shop, and a rare South African sea creature for every skill they master. Children can drag items to arrange their lagoon. A brand-new player is welcomed by Tumi and then taken straight out to sea for one guided catch (1 + 2), with a pointing hand on the right fish. Once a day, after the second mission, Tumi finds an egg when you sail back to the bay; the next day your child taps it to hatch a baby sea creature for My Lagoon. Every finished run also adds a sticker to the sticker book (the pink book button): 4 for each world, plus special stickers for milestones such as a first perfect score or 10 runs. The bar above the lagoon fills one circle per catch (a gold star means right on the first try, a green tick means right with help), so your child can always see how many are left. The game is now a story: Tumi's lagoon has lost its magic, and each stage (Coral Cove, Turtle Bay, Dolphin Reef, Sunken City, The Deep) has 3 missions of 5 pearls, eggs, keys, jewels or glow lights; the third mission opens the place's gate, such as the Coral Gate. Each correct answer is one pearl, egg, key, jewel or glow light. A mission is complete when 3 or more of the 5 were right first time; otherwise Tumi kindly tries the mission again. After 3 missions the stage is saved, a new friend joins My Lagoon, and the next stage opens. If your child scores 20% or less, the next mission quietly uses easier questions without leaving the story. After 5 catches a results screen shows the score as a percentage and 1 to 3 stars. Your child sees stage names, never level numbers. The maths in each stage depends on the age band: every band starts in Coral Cove, and the report above shows which skills each world practises. A skill counts as mastered after at least 8 recent answers with 80% or more right the first time. Changing the age band keeps your child's world and changes the questions. Harder questions (times tables, dividing, missing numbers, fractions and 2-digit sums) get more thinking time: the fish swim slower, and Tumi waits up to twice as long before repeating the question or calling the starfish. Tumi repeats the question after 20 seconds without a tap (up to 40 seconds for harder questions). After a wrong answer, or 35 seconds without a tap (up to 70 seconds for harder questions), a friendly starfish appears. Tapping it gives a hint about how to work the question out (never the answer itself), and using a hint means the catch does not count as a first try. After 2 wrong tries on the same question, Tumi says "Let's work it out together!" and walks through it step by step with pictures, using classroom methods: making ten (7 + 5 → 10 + 2), going back to ten for taking away, number-line jumps for bigger numbers, rows of dots for times tables, and sharing into groups for dividing and fractions. Your child taps Next at their own pace. If your child is still stuck after that, the starfish chases away all but 2 fish. After a mistake, once your child finds the right answer, a short "Here's how it works" card shows the method (you can turn this off below). Every few rounds there is a bonus round (golden creatures, treasure chests or "Which is bigger?"). "Which is bigger?" rounds give shells but do not change the level. Progress is saved on this device and this browser.
Spend your shells on things for your lagoon. Everything you buy stays in your lagoon.
Tumi is resting now. Your turtle egg will hatch tomorrow. Come back to see what's inside!
The game is paused. Your fish and shells are safe. Come back when you are ready.
